Lack of teamwork affects Terengganu

Lack of teamwork led to Terengganu's downfall in the east coast derby against Kelantan at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru on Saturday.

National striker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha fired the Red Warriors ahead in the 37th minute before skipper Mohd Badhri Radzi added a second in the 52nd. Substitute Abdul Manaf Mamat pulled one back for the Turtles in the 91st minute.

Terengganu coach Mat Zan Mat Aris conceded that players in every position, from defence to attack, were disappointing as they could not gel in the 1-2 defeat.

"We left a lot of space in midfield and literally let our opponents attack us.

Kelantan exploited the extra space and got two valuable goals before we scored late in the game," said Mat Zan.

He said every player should play their part but sadly coordination and cohesiveness were missing.

"We let ourselves and the fans down. I had expected a better display from a team who who finished second in the league last season," he said.

The loss enabled Kelantan to top the standings as previous leaders Perak fell 2-0 to T-Team. Terengganu are third. Mat Zan pointed to the lack of a playmaker as one of the main factors behind the team's dismal display.

"We lack someone who makes telling passes for our strikers. I might look to Ismail Faruqi in future matches and see if he can take over this role."

Mat Zan also warned players to be on their toes or face being benched. "It is back to the drawing board for us.

I want to see the hunger for glory from the players but right now I cannot see that." Terengganu face Kedah at home tomorrow.

Azkals vs. Malaysia International Friendly Match Preview and Line ...

The Malaysian Tigers has arrived in the Philippines three days ago for the scheduled international friendly match tomorrow February 29, 2012. The National Team of Malaysia is one of the toughest rival that will be face by the Philippine Azkals.

The Malaysian National Football Team is the current ASEAN Champion, having captured their first ever international title last December 2010, the AFF Suzuki Cup Championship.

The National Football Team of Malasia is also known as the Malayan Tiger or in Malaysian language they were commonly called as Harimau Malaysia. The team will come to the Philippines and will go up face to face with the Azkals.

The Harimau vs. Azkals game is highly anticipated not only by the Filipinos but the Malaysian fans as well. The Malaysians promised to avenged their lost during their last visit to the Philippines last November 2001 when they were beaten by the Philippine National Football Team in the semi-finals of the SEA Games.

The Philippines and Malaysian Football had an earlier legacy of rivalry. In the late 1960′s Malaysia scored their biggest win against an international team and it was the Philippines whom they beat with the final score at 15-1 in favor of Malaysia.

Terengganu striker, Abdul Manaf Mamat is determined to maintain his scoring touch in the Malaysian League after ending his goal drought last Saturday.

In the FA Cup competition against PDRM at Stadium Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah here, Abdul Manaf scored two goals to ensure Terengganu, the defending champion, advanced into the second round to play against Perak next month.

Abdul Manaf, who is currently undergoing training with the national team for the friendly match against Sabah tomorrow, said he was not satisfied with his achievement and hoped to improve his performance in the subsequent matches.

"With these goals, I hope they will be followed by other goals, thus helping to boost my spirit and colleagues to win the next games," he said when contacted Bernama Thursday.

Last season, Abdul Manaf who will end his bachelorhood next month, scored six goals in the Malaysian League campaign.

Malaysia Football News: Defending champions Terengganu thrash ...

Defending champions Terengganu sounded a clear warning that they intend to keep the FA Cup by thrashing Police 4-0 in the first round at the Sultan Ismail Stadium on Saturday night.

Strikers Abdul Manaf Mamat (two goals) and Abdul Hadi Yahya finally found the net this season after firing blanks in Super League action while in-form hitman Francis Forkey Doe completed the rout.

Coach Mat Zan Mat Aris said the big win was just the tonic his team needed to regain their confidence after a poor run of results in the league.

"The players, especially Manaf and Hadi, really needed this game to regain their scoring touch.

"I'm delighted as they worked hard throughout the game. It shows that we are almost back to our best," he said.

The Turtles have stumbled in recent matches, losing 1-0 to Kelantan and drawing 1-1 with Kedah, but Mat Zan feels yesterday's win is the turning point of their season.

"We could have scored more goals but I'm satisfied with the overall performance," he said.

"The midfield, especially Ismail Faruqi, was outstanding, supplying the strikers with sublime passes all over the park," he said.

Mat Zan was even more bullish as the Turtles had earned the big win despite the absence of their entire starting back-line. Muslim Ahmad and ZubirAzmi are with the national Under-23 pre-Olympic team while Faizal Muhammad and captain Marzuki Yusof are injured.

"The team showed great quality and fighting spirit… that is what is needed to win matches.

"We will definitely build on this to make a run for all the trophies available," he said.

Mat Zan has already set his sights on the team's second round opponents Perak, who beat them in the league.

"We will be looking for payback against Perak. Revenge will be sweet," he said.
